20th April, 1962. TOWN VIOLINIST LEADS YOUTH ORCHESTRA

GRAND finale to the golden jubilee celebrations of the West Lindsey Music and Drama Festival is how one would describe the concert given by the internationally famous National Youth Orchestra to a capacity audience in the State Cinema, Gainsborough, on Tuesday evening.

It was a great honour for Gainsborough that the orchestra’s only local representative, Anthony Ridley, a violinist of exceptional talent, was invited to lead the orchestra.

Anthony carried out his difficult task with the assurance and skill of an experienced leader, and he was warmly congratulated by Olvin Fieldstad, the distinguished Norwegian conductor.
