17th July, 1987: ANGER AT STATION EYESORE
BRITISH Rail’s slogan “We’re getting there” has been side-lined as far as Gainsborough Central Station is concerned. according to councillors.
West Lindsey District Council have already agreed to pay out £1,000 in support of a BR promotion drive to help attract tourists to the county.
But while British Rail have been quick to publicise the area’s attractions council members say they have been very slow to react to the authorities’ request to improve one of the town’s eyesores.
Coun Ken Greatorex accused them of passing the buck after he heard efforts were being hampered by changes in personnel, while Coun Bob Rainsforth said British Rail seemed to be turning a blind eye.
