3rd July, 1987: JOB HOPES GET FRESH IMPETUS
HOPES for a new £1 billion power station and a massive jobs boost at West Burton were given new impetus this week.
Bassetlaw District Council announced that the Central Electricity Generating Board was pressing ahead with site investigations for the project which could provide 2,500 jobs.
The Board is to prepare an Environment Statement which will include a series of wide ranging assessments and studies on the proposal.
Research for West Burton B site will involve consultations with groups such as the National Farmers’ Union, Countryside Commission, Departments of Transport and the Environment, British Waterways Board and Nature Conservancy Council.
