5th July, 1912: NEGLECTED CHILDREN
AT the Police Court on Wednesday, George Frederick Charles, labourer, Commercial Buildings, was charged with wilfully neglecting his three children, aged seven years, three years and 13 months, respectively, in such manner as to cause unnecessary suffering and injury to their health.
Kate Charles, wife of defendant, said they had not had sufficient food during the last few weeks. Defendant had several times returned home half drunk and had broken up the furniture and pots in his temper. She had to beg food from neighbours. On 29th June defendant did not come home and she made a complaint to Insp Weston.
The case was adjourned for a month to give defendant an opportunity of reforming.
