THIS week we go back to 1946, just a year after the end of the Second World War.
There are only brief details about the picture but we know it is at Newsums and presumably is of the firm’s employees and their families, although the occasion is unknown.
Newsums, timber merchants, was one of Gainsborough’s most well-known firms at that time and was situated on Carr Lane. It had it’s own private rail siding which was still in situ beyond the company’s demise in the 1960s.
Only a few people are known: on the back row in uniform is Fred Middleton, and on the front row are Fred and Peggy Brumby.
