A ‘world-class’ guitar hero is coming to town to wow music lovers at an upcoming concert in Lea next month as Richard Durrant heads to the area.
He will be showcasing the works of revered Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré.
The Sussex-based musician first visited Paraguay in May, 2011, and during this successful concert tour he launched the first album – The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay – in a South American trilogy.
This album was the first collection of Barrios’ guitar works to be launched in Paraguay by a foreign artist, an exotic case of ‘carrying coals to Newcastle’.
Described by Guitarist Magazine as ‘one of the world’s most accomplished and experimental players’, Durrant refuses to be pigeon-holed as a purely classical guitarist and is forever pushing the boundaries of his art.
Accompanied by cutting-edge visual effects by Mark Charlton, he has now abandoned what he calls the ‘navel-gazing confines’ of the guitar stool to play some of the world’s most demanding pieces of music standing up.
Richard Durrant will be performing at Lea Village Hall, Rectory Lane, Lea, near Gainsborough on Sunday 24 March. Doors are at 7.30pm.
