Thanks very much David Attenborough for spoiling my evening.

There I was marvelling at the elephants in his latest nature epic Africa, and remembering my own Kenyan safari, when his voice took on an ominous tone.

They were struggling to find food and their calves were starving.

I was convinced that the next shot would show them chancing across an oasis, tucking in, and living happily ever after.

But no, we saw the heartbreaking death of a baby elephant. I’ve gone off Sir Dave now.
