SO Councillor Reg Shore is very pleased with the residents of West Lindsey because 74 per cent of residents are recycling but he wants people to do more.
We have 74 per cent of residents recycling yet one of the lowest amounts - 33 per cent - of rubbish collected, compared to North Kesteven's 55.5 per cent.
Having been in discussion with the chief executive of West Lindsey about the recycling contr
act we have with Fox Lindum of Caenby Corner, it is in my humble opinion that somebody has not thought the contract through.
We are still only allowed to put certain types of recyclable material into our bins.
North Kesteven Council will take any and everything with a recycle logo on the material, which is probably why they have a better recycling rate than West Lindsey.
Instead of these councillors getting all excited over not a lot, perhaps next time they could ensure that the next contract includes everything with a recycling logo on it.
As it is, are the people of this borough aware that we as council tax payers actually pay Fox Lindum money to take the recyclable rubbish from us?
Why are they collecting it if they can't make money?
What I would suggest to councillor Reg Shore is that he asks his colleagues across at North Kesteven Council how to set up a recycling contract then next time we might be able to recycle a lot more than 33.5 per cent.
Just to sum up, we the council tax payers have paid for all the recycling bins, we have paid to have the dustcarts adapted to pick up the bins, we pay the dustmen and women to collect the rubbish, we then deliver it to Fox Lindum free of charge, and we do not get any money back from delivering this rubbish to Fox Lindum.
Our wonderful councillors think this is a good deal worthy of so-called best practice. This council tax payer most certainly doesn't think so.
