Appeal from RAF Ingham
Gainsborough news
AN appeal has been launched to help preserve the history of a local former-RAF base - and YOU can help by writing a letter.
RAF Ingham was once home to the Polish Bomber Squadron during the Second World War. Now, the RAF Ingham Heritage Group wants to put up a lasting memorial as well as a museum.
The group is continuing to progress with a renovation project to convert the former Airmen’s Mess into an Aviation Heritage Centre.
Their main financial partner is the Heritage Lottery Fund, which requires ‘proof’ of the interest and need within the local and greater community for this project.
In order to achieve this, the group needs to collect letters of support from schools, organisations and groups, and petitions of support from individuals.
Coun Roger Patterson said: “This appeal is for a worthwhile cause that will protect and preserve important heritage assets and attract visitors to the district. A small dedicated group of volunteers work tirelessly in their own time to realise this project that would otherwise be lost to another generation.”
“It is something I fully support and something that will put West Lindsey on the map in places like Poland.”
Anyone wishing to support the project should contact the group’s founder Geoff Burton by emailing rafingham@hotmail.co.uk or call 07787805978.
