Youngsters take to cleaning up the Levellings
NEWS: The Gainsborough Standard
ACTIVE and community-spirited youngsters from Gainsborough have taken to cleaning up The Levellings in Gainsborough.
The Levellings, off Love Lane, will be given a new lease of life by 11 young volunteers taking part in the Prince’s Trust team programme.
Team leader Lorraine Epsin-Hempsall said: “They’ll work together as a team to clear the site of weeds and litter, as well as cut back plants and trees to make the park even better for locals.”
She continued: “It gives them the chance to develop the skills important to working as part of a team, and also shows that everyone has an important responsibility as members of a community, who can make a real difference to local life.”
The community-based project is just one part of the team’s 12-week Prince’s Trust course, which is run by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.
Other elements that the youths have tackled include action-packed outdoor activities like caving and climbing along with team challenges, a job placement and careers guidance excercises,.
A spokesman said: “This really gives 16- to 25-year-olds a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop skills essential for success. For some, it’s the chance to turn around a difficult past and improve future prospects.”
