YOUR help is needed to fund essential repairs to the ceiling at Gainsborough’s historic All Saints’ Church.

Several fundraising initiatives have been set up - including a guide book chronicling the church’s colourful past.

Over the festive period, childminders Mo Marah, Sue Thorpe and Jemma Bennett gathered their youngsters to sing Christmas songs and perform a special sponsored ‘star’ jump with all funds going to repairs.

Sue Thrope said: “We raised £505, which is great, but it’s just a drop in the ocean as the repairs will cost over £5,000 - so I’d appeal for everyone to please come forward and do that they can.”

A booklet written by Jane East (nee Veale) in 1968 has been reproduced in her memory.

Jane died in 2011, but during her long and colourful life was head of history and later deputy headmistress at the Gainsborough High School for Girls and was also an important part of the Magistracy in Gainsborough.

The book is available by calling 01427 615323.
