Long service is celebrated at Gainsboro’ Royal British Legion

The Gainsborough branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) gathered to received awards for long service from the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire Mr John Burke DL.

Notable among the awards was one for 50 years’ service presented to local RBL chairman Michael Wragg and 30 year awards each to his wife Susan and son Christopher, a remarkable family achievement.

A Gainsborough RBL spokesman said: “The awards are presented to both individuals and corporate bodies for their loyalty, outstanding work and devoted service over the years towards the Poppy Appeal.”

“The Poppy Appeal is The Royal British Legion’s major fund raising campaign, providing funds for our vital work helping the Armed Forces family both past and present.”

He added: “Volunteers are the bedrock of the annual campaign which starts in late October and ends on Remembrance Sunday and you can help in all sorts of ways.”
