WEIRD and wonderful hairstyles were on show at St Anne’s Primary School as staff and pupils had a ‘Mad Hair Day’ to raise money for charity.

Mad March Hair Day saw kids, teachers and staff pay £1 each to come to school with a bizarre hair-do or a wacky wig.

The school raised £158 for the Bassetlaw Family Diabetes Support Group and £183 for in aid of Diabetes UK.

Teaching assistant Hayley Beard said that helping out those who suffer from diabetes is a cause very close to the hearts of all at St Anne’s.

“We have children and staff in school who are effected by diabetes so it’s always quite an important and prominent thing for us,” she said. “We love to help where we can.”

To do their bit, the school saw some very interesting hairstyles and accessories.

“We had all sorts,” said Hayley. “There were wigs with flashing lights in, glittery hair-dos, great big afros and one of our year 5s even came in a with huge Amy Winehouse-style beehive.”

She continued: “The kids absolutely loved it and fully understood why we were raising the money. A spokesman from Diabetes UK came along to explain what they do and why our fundraising is so important.”
