Students at Huntcliff School in Kirton in Lindsey tucked in to some snails for charity
BRAVE students at Huntcliff School in Kirton in Lindsey came out of their shells and tucked in to some snails for charity.
In scenes reminiscent of ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’, pupils stepped up to the plate to eat a cooked snails to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
The idea came from one of the school’s modern foreign language teachers, Kate Mercier, following a similar challenge at the school’s open evening in September.
“At the open evening we offered parents and prospective students the chance to try a cooked snail delivered from France,” she said.
“They went down surprisingly well so I decided to extend the challenge to our current students as well.”
She added: “They each had to pay £1 and in return they were served a snail from a special farm in France.”
The snails had been cooked in a delicious combination of garlic butter and parsley to tempt the student’s tastebuds, and over 30 took on the challenge and tried the delicacy, much to the delight of their fellow pupils.
Sam Yates, a year 9 pupil was one of those brave enough to have more than one of the cooked snails.
He said: “It was actually really nice.
“All you could taste was the garlic butter, so it was a bit like eating garlic bread.”
