The latest meeting of the Gainsborough and District Ladies Luncheon Club saw the group welcome a very unique speaker for the February talk.

Moira Cameron is a Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London - and is the first female ever to hold the position.

She is one of 35 resident Warders in the Tower - more commonly known as ‘Beefeaters’. A spokesman from the club said: “In 1985, Moira joined the British Army where she served for 22 years with the Women’s Royal Army Corps and the Royal Army Pay Corps, working her way through the ranks and receiving her Long Service and Good Conduct awards in the year 2000.”

“Her career at the Tower began in July 2007, although she did not get to wear her uniform until September of that year.”

She continued: “Moira began her talk with an historic resume of the Tower and its famous and infamous residents, which was accompanied by equally historic and interesting slides.”

“She then enthralled her listeners with a more personal insight into her own duties and of her life in the Tower.”
