Youngsters from Corringham Church of England Primary School sent a message to the future by burying a time capsule in the grounds of the recently opened Lincolnshire Otter in Gainsborough.

Mayor of Gainsborough Coun Lesley Rollings was also on hand to help the six children from Year Three bury their time capsule.

Wendy Thorpe, from Corringham C of E Primary School, said that the pupils really enjoyed having a conversation with the future.

“It was great to be involved in such a fabulous event,” she said.

“It was a great opportunity for the children to get creative and think about history by leaving items in the time capsule to be discovered in the future.”

Items placed into the time capsule included stationery, a list of the top ten endangered animals in 2012 and 50 questions from the children on what life will be like in 50 years.

There were also photos of the school children holding the Olympic torch from this summer and old photographs from when the school was first opened. A plaque was unveiled on the day at The Lincolnshire Otter showing the date and the details of when the capsule was buried.

Mark Morley, manager of the Marston’s Inns and Taverns pub, said: “The time capsule is not only a fascinating project for youngsters to take part in, but it’s also quite symbolic for us too.”

Mark continued: “We’re at the exciting beginning of something new with the Lincolnshire Otter, which will be around for generations of families to enjoy.”

The Lincolnshire Otter is a newly built restaurant on Somerby Way on the outskirts of Gainsborough on the A631.
