KIND-SPIRITED villagers from Corringham help spread a little festive cheer by putting on a special free Christmas lunch for local pensioners.

The annual free Christmas dinner was enjoyed by over 60 Corringham OAPS in the village’s Beckett Arms pub.

The event celebrated its 20th year and proved more popular than ever.

Manned by volunteers, the free Christmas dinner spectacular was all down the local quiz team who worked for donations throughout the year to raise over £600.

“It was another amazing event,” said Beckett Arms bar manager Stacey Sheppeck. “It’s been going for 20 years this year and has become an important part of village life.”

“Everybody who worked on the day was a volunteer, serving up the food and stuff like that. We invited all of the pensioners in the village and over 60 came along.”

Stacey continued: “All of the pensioners got a three-course meal and a drink and were treated to a lovely carol concert from the kids at Corringham Primary School.”

“It’s just great to see the quiz team and all of the volunteers doing something so wonderful for the community.”

She added: “Everyone had a great time and we’d just like to say a huge thank you to the people of Corringham for raising the money and making it so special - Merry Christmas to you all.”
