Changes to recycling

GAINSBOROUGH residents are reminded that the Recycling Centre will soon see a change in opening days and times in a bid to cut costs.

The town’s household waste recycling centre on Summergangs Lane will no longer be open for seven days a week.

It will only be open four days a week from Friday to Monday and opening times will change to 9am to 4pm from 16th November.

Lincolnshire County Council Executive Member for Waste Services and Green Issues, Coun Lewis Strange, said: “Changing the opening days and times at our recycling centres meant we could keep all 13 open for residents to use, despite a reduction in the waste budget.”

“I would like to encourage everyone to continue recycling all they can. It’s important that we divert as much waste as we can from landfill sites, so that it can be turned into something new.”

Councillor Strange added: “Lincolnshire residents now recycle almost 53 per cent of their household waste, which is a truly outstanding achievement. This exceeds a national average of 42 per cent and also a government and EU target of 50 per cent by 2020. Not many places can claim such success, and residents should be exceptionally proud of this.”

More than 20 different types of waste can be recycled at the Gainsborough site including tyres, batteries and even spectacles.
