Parish Church School football team took part in the County Football Championships G130308-3b

Football fun and a huge success were enjoyed by Parish Church Primary School who are celebrating after an astounding performance at the Lincolnshire 7 a side football championships.

More than 250 schools from all over the county had started in the competition and it had been whittled down to the final eight.

Parish began with three group games and came agonisingly close to making the semi-finals.

They lost their first game 1-0, having missed a penalty, won their second 4-0, and after hitting the post and bar, conceded an unlucky goal to finish 3rd in the group, a point behind the team in 2nd.

They were then put into the 5th/6th play-off and won 2-1 to finish as the 5th best school in the whole of the County.

Captain Evan Butcher was one of the stars of the tournament and said: “ We did really well and it was great to play at this level.”

Teacher and coach John Anderson commented: “We were missing two of our best players, so this was a fantastic performance and the players in the squad can be very proud of themselves.”
